Exploring the psychometric properties of the questionnaire on family members adapting to an older adult’s admission to a nursing home (CAFIAR-15) in a Colombian sample
(MDPI, 2021-12-23) Martín-Carbonell, Marta; Riquelme Marín, Antonio; Fernández-Daza, Martha; Ortigosa Quiles, Juan Manuel; Méndez Mateo, Inmaculada; Personalidad, Evaluación y Tratamiento Psicológicos; Facultad de Psicología y Logopedia
Abstract: Institutionalization to a nursing home can be one of the most significant and traumatic events in a senior’s life, and for their family. For this reason, it is especially important to have validated instruments that evaluate the family member’s adaptation to admitting the senior to a nursing home. The study included 139 family members recruited equally in two types of institutions (lowincome nursing home (LINH) vs. high-income nursing home (HINH)). A sociodemographic questionnaire with questions to study antecedents and conditions for care and the Questionnaire for Admitting an Older Adult to a Nursing Home (CAFIAR-15) were used. Examining the communalities indicated that four of the five items in factor 3 presented communalities lower than 0.30 and differences in the factorial structure of the CAFIAR-15 were found. There were differences in the antecedents and conditions for care between the relatives of the older adults at LINH and HINH. Cultural differences and differences between LINH and HINH may be the basis for flaws in the conceptual validity of the CAFIAR-15 in the Colombian sample.

Family care prior to the admission of the elderly in a nursing home and continuity in family care: a comparative study of Colombia and Spain
(Elsevier, 2022-06-07) Riquelme Marín, Antonio; Martín-Carbonell, Martha; Ortigosa Quiles, Juan Manuel; Fernández-Daza, Marta; Méndez Mateo, Inmaculada; Personalidad, Evaluación y Tratamiento Psicológicos; Facultad de Psicología y Logopedia
This study examined the background before admission to a nursing home and the conditions for the continuity of care, of the relatives of older adults of Colombia and Spain. The study sample comprised 546 participants: 278 and 268 from Colombia and Spain, respectively. Structured interviews were conducted with the older adults’ relatives. Sociodemographic similarities predominated, although in the Colombian sample there were significantly more unrelated people. Similarities in previous and current care conditions also predominated too. Cluster 1 included all the cases of Colombian low-resource nursing homes, and Cluster 2 included all the relatives of Colombian highresource nursing homes and all the Spanish centers. The type of nursing home was the variable more important to identify the abovementioned clusters. Conclusions: Family members from Colombia and Spain continue to care for the elderly admitted to geriatric homes. The type of geriatric center is what establishes the differences in the users.

Social assistive robots and intelligent environments in psychological well-being in the elderly: a systematic review

Technology is being used by individuals of all ages; young children show a high tendency of problematic use of devices such as smartphones. This study aimed to identify different profiles that vary in conflicts related to problematic mobile phone use and maladaptive communication and emotional patterns. Therefore, we examined whether there are significant differences in bullying and cyberbullying among teenagers who have a problem utilizing mobile phones. The study participants were 810 students of Compulsory Secondary Education (M = 13.99, SD = 1.32), with 52.2% being girls. Questionnaires on school violence and experiences related to mobile phones were administered. The latent profile analysis identified three different types of problematic mobile phone use: (a) low levels of conflict was associated with mobile phone abuse and low levels of communication and emotional use; (b) moderate levels of conflict was associated with mobile phone abuse and moderate levels of communication and emotional use; and (c) high levels of conflict was associated with mobile phone abuse and high levels of communication and emotional use. The study results highlight significant differences in the manifestations of school violence between the profiles. Finally, this study’s findings form the basis for the development of education programs to prevent mobile phone abuse and school violence and therefore academic adjustment.

Perfectionism classes and aggression in adolescents
(Frontiers Media, 2021-06-01) Ruiz Esteban, Cecilia; Méndez Mateo, Inmaculada; Fernández-Sogorb, Aitana; Álvarez Teruel, José Daniel; Psicología Evolutiva y de la Educación; Facultad de Educación
Some of the components of perfectionism produce a variety of problems, such as interpersonal hypersensitivity and hostility, that may be associated with aggression behavior during adolescence. This study aims to identify classes of adolescents depending on their levels of Perfectionistic Strivings (PS) and Perfectionistic Concerns (PC) as well as to examine whether there are significant differences in the manifestations of the four components of aggression behavior (i.e., anger, hostility, physical aggression, and verbal aggression) between them. A total of 1,074 high school students from various educational centers participated in this study (M = 14.78, SD = 1.84). The Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale and the Aggression Questionnaire short form were used. The Latent Class Analysis identified three classes of adolescent perfectionism: (a) Non-Perfectionists (low PS and PC), (b) Maladaptive Perfectionists (high PS and PC), and (c) Adaptive Perfectionists (moderate PS and PC). Results revealed significant differences between classes regarding the different manifestations of aggression. Maladaptive Perfectionists and Adaptive Perfectionists reported, respectively, the highest and lowest levels of aggression behavior. This study assists in educational programs to prevent conflicts related to school violence through emotional adjustment.

At the university stage, students must face new challenges and achieve necessary academic goals, with intrinsic motivation and the effective use of learning strategies playing a relevant role in not procrastinating. The objective of the study was to investigate the profiles of university students according to their levels of intrinsic motivation. It also sought to examine whether students with different intrinsic motivation profiles differ significantly in motivational learning strategies. The study participants were 719 university students in Spain (M = 21.31; SD = 4.43), being 64.8% women. The Educational Motivation Scale and the Questionnaire of Learning Strategies in University Students were used. During the completion of the instruments, anonymity and confidentiality of the data were ensured. Informed consent was requested from the participants, who participated voluntarily, without receiving any reward and were able to unsubscribe at any time. This was a cross-sectional study that used convenience sampling. The latent profile analysis was carried out. The results revelated that different intrinsic motivation profiles have been found among university students. Likewise, it was found that the different profiles differ significantly in motivational learning strategies. It was shown that those students with high values of intrinsic motivation are characterized by using motivational learning strategies to a high degree compared to students with low or intermediate values. The findings of the study can help personalize educational programs by providing prevention and intervention methods regarding inappropriate patterns in the use of students’ learning strategies as well as self-regulation in the learning process to ensure academic success.
