Résumé: Avec quels livres apprenait-on le français en
Espagne en 1808 ? Notre étude essaiera de faire une approche
des manuels qui servirent à l’apprentissage du français aux Espagnols lors de ce moment particulier de l’histoire d’Espagne qu’est 1808.
Mais cette approche ne se bornera pas à étudier ce type de livres, mais elle tiendra aussi compte d’autres, spécialement des œuvres littéraires
dont on s’est servi pour l’enseignement/apprentissage de la langue française; parmi lesquels il faut surtout citer le Télémaque de Fénelon, qui
fut utilisé pour l’étude du français, mais aussi à d’autres fi ns (pédagogiques, philosophiques, politiques…), sans oublier sa valeur intrinsèque en tant qu’ouvrage littéraire. Bien que notre travail soit axé sur l’année 1808, il tiendra compte aussi des années antérieures et postérieures à cette date emblématique.
Abstract: Which books were used to learn French in Spain in 1808? Our study aims to analyse the books that Spaniards used to learn French in 1808, a crucial period in the history of Spain. It is not restricted, however, to these books. It also considers literary works that were also used to teach and disseminate the French language. Of particular importance among these works was Telemachus by Fénelon, which was used for the study of French and other purposes (pedagogical, philosophical, political, etc.), and also had intrinsic value as a literary work. Very few “French books” were actually published in Spain in this year, largely because of the complex political situation so, although our focus is 1808, we shall also consider the years both before and after this key moment.
