Description
Abstract
In a postmodern world the way of understanding and exercising citizenship is changing. In this current scenario, also reflected on the new digital media, there are two models of civic and political engagement: the submissive citizen and the realistic citizen. They correspond to two perspectives from which we can understand citizenship: a managed perspective of e-democracy and an autonomous perspective of e-democracy. It is understood from either perspective that new technologies are exerting great influence on the construction of citizenship, although there is no consensus on the consequences. Thus, it is necessary to promote a critical and reflective education in the civic and political use of digital media which consider both traditional ways of civic and political engagement and emerging ones.
