Abstract
Francisco Valdés, que contribuyó de manera decisiva a la definición de las vanguardias históricas regionalistas, desarrolló una prosa literaria en la que manifiesta un profundo conocimiento de obras y autores de la literatura universal y de su propia contemporaneidad siempre desde el prisma de un lector atento y crítico con la obra y consigo mismo. En este artículo nos centramos en las referencias y fuentes clásicas que recorren su obra publicada distinguiendo entre alusiones a autores y obras de Grecia y Roma, tópicos clásicos y, por último, la mención a algunos representantes del Humanismo renacentista. Estas alusiones darán fe de la vasta cultura de un autor periférico pero protagonista indiscutible de la Edad de Plata española.
Francisco Valdés, who contributed decisively to the shaping of regional historical avant-garde movements, developed a literary prose in which a vast knowledge of works and authors of both his time and the universal literary tradition can be perceived. Such knowledge results from his being an attentive reader, fond of delving deeper into both his readings and himself. In this research paper, we will focus on the classical references and sources that populate his published works. We will establish a threefold distinction between allusions to Greek and Roman authors and works, classical topics and, finally, the references made to some Renaissance Humanists. Such allusions will account for the vast culture of a minor but decisive author in the Spanish Silver Age.
