Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to explore the images and information that the undergraduate students recall when they are asked about Universal History. With that aim, it has been analyzed 107 narratives built by 520 students of Primary Education Degree. The texts were compiled during three academic years. The data obtained were processed with a qualitative research approach. After the categorization of these narratives, we were able to detect the topics, figures and events that are more frequently remembered by our students. After such analysis, it is possible to observe that the historical events selected by the students are barely diverse, that the students have a lack of knowledge about first order or substantive concepts, and that most of the topics and events described are under the influence of the master narratives of the 19th century, mixed with characters and events depicted in films and television.
