Juegos Panamericanos y Parapanamericanos Santiago 2023. Estudios sobre el Impacto Social, Turismo, Voluntariado, y Equilibrio de Género
(Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, 2025-01-15) Bravo, Gonzalo A.; Duclos, Daniel; Silva, Jorge; López Gullón, José María; Vegara Ferri, José Miguel; Angosto Sánchez, Salvador; Actividad Física y Deporte; Bravo, Gonzalo
Between September and November of 2023, a group of six professionals from two Chilean universities, one university in Spain and another in the United States participated in data collection for four research studies. These studies aimed to: (1) examine the social impact of the Pan American and Parapan American Games on residents; (2) understand the profile of tourists and their evaluation of the organization of the Games; (3) explore the motivation, psychological empowerment, work effort, satisfaction, and future intentions of the volunteers who participated in the Games; and finally, (4) investigate the factors that influence progress toward effective gender equality, both in sport participation and in the advancement to leadership positions among members of Pan American sports organizations. The data collection across these four studies exceeded 13,000 responses. Although these studies examine different aspects of the organization and impact of large-scale sporting events, they are interconnected by a common context: a large-scale and highly complex event, namely, the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games which, until then, had never been held in Chile. This project was supported by various institutions, including the Santiago 2023 Corporation, the Undersecretariat of Tourism of the Government of Chile, the Fundación Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, and the Chilean Olympic Committee. It also received support from the universities affiliated with the participating researchers: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Universidad de Murcia (Spain), and West Virginia University (United States).

The closure of educational centers was one of the first measures against COVID-19, preventing physical education in classrooms. The aim of this study is to analyze the physical activity practice of adolescent students before and during the COVID-19 lockdown period in Spain. A total of 4508 high school students with a mean age of 15.8 years (±1.1 years) completed the IPAQ Questionnaire short version. The results show how students significantly decreased the duration and frequency of physical activity during confinement. The expenditure in MET-minutes/week has decreased by 46.8%, highlighting the low intensity activity "walking" which has decreased by 91.1% between both periods. The percentage of students performing a low level of physical activity has increased from 24.1% before confinement to 41.3% during this period. However, 36% of the students performing a low level of physical activity before quarantine have gone on to perform a medium or high level of physical activity during quarantine. These results help to understand and analyze the behavior of adolescent students during the lockdown period.

Factors Influencing the Tourist’s Future Intentions in Small-Scale Sports Events
(MDPI, 2020-10-01) Vegara Ferri, José Miguel; López Gullón, José María; Irena Valantine; Díaz Suárez, Arturo; Angosto Sánchez, Salvador; Actividad Física y Deporte; Facultades de la UMU::Facultad de Ciencias del Deporte
Small-scale sports events are a good strategy for communities seeking to attract visitors and are one of the major attractions of sustainable sports tourism. The aim of this study to determine which factors influence the future intentions of the tourist involved in small-scale sports events. The sample was composed of 236 subjects who participated in a half-marathon in Spain. The results of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) provide support for the applicability of the tourists’ perception questionnaire in the context of sports events. The results of both validity (convergent and discriminant) and reliability (internal consistency) analyses were satisfactory. The results indicated that this scale had 18 items distributed in six factors (communication, staff, electronic wordofmouth, destination image, satisfaction and future intentions). The proposal model revealed that satisfaction is a mediated factor between staff and destination image with future intentions of repeating the event. Electronic word of mouth and satisfaction were influencing factors that predicted the tourists’ future intentions. This finding suggests that this questionnaire can be a useful tool in measuring tourist perception on a small-scale sports events scale, allowing a better understanding of the reasons that lead a tourist to select a certain destination and sports event.

Psychological dimension in the formation process of the Spanish Olympic wrestler
