- PublicationOpen AccessMood, burnout and dispositional optimism in kayak polo players during their competitive stage(Frontiers Media, 2021-04-09) Angosto Sánchez, Salvador; Salmerón Baños, Laura; Ortín Montero, Francisco José; Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Morales Baños, Vicente; Actividad Física y DeporteThe main objective of performance sport is to obtain achievements at the highest level through the adequate development of the athlete. The scientific literature demonstrates the fundamental role played by the inclusion of certain psychological variables in the training plan. This study examined the psychological profile of kayak polo players through the variables of burnout, optimism and mood in the hours prior to the competition, relating these to each other and to some socio-demographic data. A sample of 86 canoeists, 60 men (69.8%) and 26 women (30.2%), with an age measurement of 24.4±9.1 years belonging to the 1st male and female kayak polo division completed the POMS-29, the LOT-R and the IBD-R. Athletes' levels of optimism were found to be significantly correlated with mood. Optimism also influenced emotional exhaustion. In addition, seniority and internationality were decisive factors in the level of optimism and mood achieved.
- PublicationOpen AccessData research: Physical fitness perception and physical education enjoyment in11-to12-year-old children.(MDPI, 2022-12-28) Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Actividad Física y Deporte1.Description of the methodology used to generate the dataset. Basic descriptive methods (standard deviation, range, etc.) were used for descriptive statistical analysis of the measured variables. Cronbach’s alpha was applied to assess the reliability of the scales, with values of 0.70 for the IFIS scale and 0.79 for the PACES scale. Because the sample size was over 50, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was performed to verify a normal distribution of the data for each variable. A mean analysis of independent samples was performed for the gender variable through a student’s t-test and for the weight percentile category variable through an ANOVA. Bivariate correlations between numerical variables were established through the Pearson test to determine possible interactions between variables. 2. Software or tools needed to interpret the data. [Include the version of the software. If specific software with restricted access is required, explain how to obtain it. Assess whether it is possible to change the dataset to an open format (recommended)]. Data analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Science® software, version 28 (SPSS®, Chicago, IL, USA). 3. Procedures followed for data quality assurance. With a significance level of α = 0.05 and a perfect correlation coefficient when r = |1|, very strong when |0.8| ≤ r < |1|, strong when |0.5| ≤ r < |0.8|, weak when |0.3| ≤ r < 0 and null when r = 0.
- PublicationOpen AccessInfluence of the psychomotor profile in the improvement of learning in early childhood education(MDPI, 2021-11-30) Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Martínez Moreno, Alfonso; Morales Baños, Vicente; Díaz Suárez, Arturo; Actividad Física y DeporteThe development of psychomotor skills in childhood enables children to organise the outside world through their bodies, contributing to their intellectual, affective, and social development. The present study aimed to longitudinally evaluate the psychomotor profile, throughout three academic years, of 3, 4 and 5-year-olds belonging to the second cycle of infant school, relating it descriptively to academic performance. The sample consisted of 82 subjects aged between 3 and 6 years throughout the study. The distribution of the sample was homogeneous, with 47.6% boys (n = 39) and 52.4% girls (n = 43). The results not only highlight the importance of the development and stimulation of motor skills from an early age for the overall development of the child, butalso, when related to previous studies, show how they influence the development of human beings in adulthood.

- PublicationOpen AccessData research: Influence of the psychomotor profile in the improvement of learning in early childhood education(MDPI, 2021-11-30) Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Actividad Física y Deporte1.Description of the methodology used to generate the dataset. Qualitative variables were described by absolute (n) and relative (%) frequencies; mean and standard deviation (SD) for quantitative variables. For the study of the evolution of children’s psychomotor skills according to gender, a two-factor ANOVA test with repeated measures in one of them was carried out using the General Linear Model (GLM) procedure. The dimensions of performance were studied using the Wilcoxon test. The logistic regression model was used to determine the effect of the improvement in the dimensions of psychomotor skills on the improvement in each of the performance dimensions: SA, LG, and KE. 2. Software or tools needed to interpret the data. [Include the version of the software. If specific software with restricted access is required, explain how to obtain it. Assess whether it is possible to change the dataset to an open format (recommended)]. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 25.0 for Windows. 3. Procedures followed for data quality assurance. The differences considered statistically significant are those whose p < 0.05.
- PublicationOpen AccessData research: Body composition, aerobic capacity and heart rate of 10-14 years old soccer players.(2026-02-24) Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Actividad Física y Deporte1.Description of the methodology used to generate the dataset. Se diseñó una hoja de registro en la que se apuntaron los valores obtenidos por cada jugador en cada una de las pruebas. 2. Software or tools needed to interpret the data. [Include the version of the software. If specific software with restricted access is required, explain how to obtain it. Assess whether it is possible to change the dataset to an open format (recommended)]. Los programas informáticos utilizados para el análisis de datos fueron Microsoft Excel y SPSS Statistics 23. 3. Procedures followed for data quality assurance.
- PublicationOpen AccessPhysical fitness perception and physical education enjoyment in 11- to 12-year-old children(MDPI, 2022-12-28) Borrego Balsalobre, Francisco José; Cavas García, Francisco; Díaz Suárez, Arturo; Martínez Moreno, Alfonso; Actividad Física y DeporteChildhood motor competence plays a fundamental role in long-term adherence to physical activity. Enjoyment levels and self-perception of physical fitness increase motivation, commitment, and participation in physical activity. The objective of this study was to assess the body mass index (BMI), weight percentile, health status, physical fitness, and enjoyment levels of physical activity. A sample of 138 persons, of whom 67 were males and 71 females, with a mean BMI of 20.04 (2.35) answered the questionnaires Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale and the International Fitness Scale–self-report of physical fitness in young people. Tests were administered to measure functional fitness and anthropometric characteristics. Statistical analysis included calculation of Cronbach’s alpha, ANOVA and Pearson’s bivariate test correlations. The data indicate the reliability of the International Fitness Scale. No significant differences by gender were observed for the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale. The BMI showed that significant positive correlations with 20 m sprint scores (p < 0.001, r = 0.367) and significant negative correlations with 6-minute lap scores (p < 0.001, r = −0.360) could be caused by an older physiological age. The overall physical fitness level of the children was medium-high, with most of the children enjoying physical education classes and slightly higher enjoyment values for males 40.88 (5.42) than females 40.31 (6.16).
