- PublicationOpen AccessVecindad, religiosiad y conflictos jurisdiccionales en el Jujuy colonial(2016-10-18) Estruch, DoloresThis work reconstructs the process of formation of the community of the colonial Jujuy, delving into the role played by religion. To this end, we explore the trajectory of the Tarija Pablo Bernardez de Ovando, a major landowner that accumulated titles, mercedes of lands and a "encomienda" that would end up constituting the marquissate of Tojo. We are interested in going over his particular trayectory since his condition as a foreigner will allow us to investigate which formalized and non-formalized practices assisted him in acquiring his status of citizen and will also give us an approach into jurisdictional cultures typical of pre-contemporary societies. We consider religion to have played a key role in that process since his formation of a vicinity was, among other aspects, settled in a judicial process between the Archbishopric of Charcas and the Bishopric of Tucumán over payment of tithes, in which Ovando was excommunicated by the Archbishopric.

- PublicationOpen AccessSolidaridad con la Revolución Sandinista. Comparativa de redes transnacionales: los casos de la República Federal de Alemania y España(2016-10-18) Agreda Portero, José Manuel; Helm, ChristianThe article offers a comparison of solidarity movements with the Sandinista Revolution in Spain and the Federal Republic of Germany. A central argument is the influence of national contexts and factors on the development of solidarity and its shape in both countries. In terms of actors, the motivation of national activists, the organization of foreign solidarity in Nicaragua itself and the case of solidarity brigades, both movements share many similarities. Main differences exist in the organization on a national level and in their relationship with the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and their organizations. While solidarity activists in Spain were more open to Sandinista efforts to organize solidarity hierarchically, West German solidarity severely opposed them and took a more critical step towards the Sandinista Revolution.
