Nurses, midwives, and nursing assistants (TCAE) represent an essential resource in the healthcare system. Objective: to analyze the relationship between motivation and work engagement in nursing professionals at a tertiary hospital, describing the levels of each construct and its dimensions.Material and Method: Descriptive-correlational transversal observational study conducted at a single center using a questionnaire. The participants were nursing staff. Work motivation was measured using Hackman and Oldham's Job Diagnosis Survey (JDS) scale, and work engagement was assessed with the shortened Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9). Both scales were analysed based on their total scores and underlying dimensions.Outcomes: 350 nursing professionals participated in the survey. The most represented category was nurses with 177 (50.6%), followed by nursing assistants with 146 (41.7%) and midwives with 27 (7.7%). The JDS and UWEs-9 scale scores were 77.16± 8.786 and 4.49±1.130, respectively. On the JDS scale, midwives had significantly higher scores for task variety (p<0.001), while nursing assistants had higher scores for task identity (p<0.001) and feedback (p<0.001). In terms of work engagement, dedication and absorption scored highly with 4.81 and 4.29.Conclusions:The level of motivation and work engagement are average. As points for action, better feedback on performance and the impact of tasks on midwives and nurses is needed.
- PublicationOpen AccessEfectos de las tecnologías educativas desarrolladas para el trabajo de parto y parto: una revisión sistemática(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) Ribeiro, Bruna Stefany Rodrigues; Coelho, Tatiane da Silva; Melo, Laura Pinto Torres de; Nicolau, Ana Izabel Oliveira; Damasceno, Ana Kelve de Castro; Nour, Guilherme Frederico Abdul; Sin departamento asociadoIntroduction: Educational technologies (ET) are highly relevant tools for the production, dissemination, and transmission of knowledge. Within the field of Obstetric Nursing, these devices are used for health education and promotion activities, with the purpose of promoting the autonomy of pregnant women and their companions, thus strengthening good practices in childbirth and delivery. Objective:to evaluate the effects of educational technologies developed for labor and delivery.Material and method: A systematic review was developed according to JBI recommendations. The research question was formulated using the PICOS acronym, and its report was described according to PRISMA. Searches were conducted in the Pubmed/Medline, Cochrane, Scopus, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and grey literature databases, without idiomatic and/or temporal restrictions. The RoB-2 and Robins-I tools were used to assess the risk of bias, and GRADE was used to assess the quality of evidence. Results: 630 studies were retrieved, of which 7 comprised the final sample of the review. Pregnant women who used TE showed greater knowledge about the signs of labor and delivery, in addition to feeling more prepared to experience these moments. Among the companions, there was greater security and expansion of support actions for women, with increased autonomy and empowerment, which contributed to greater satisfaction of postpartum women in relation to childbirth. Conclusion:the use of educational technologies proved to be effective and promotes improved knowledge and satisfaction of pregnant women and their birth companions when used effectively, obtaining a “strong” degree of recommendation.
- PublicationOpen AccessCarga de Trabajo, Motivación y Cumplimiento de Documentación Electrónica de Enfermería: Estudio Transversal en Indonesia(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) Amaliyah, Eli; Kartika Ashanty; Suganda, Tomi; Sin departamento asociadoBackground:The global adoption of electronic medical records (EMR) has changed the way nursing is documented. It aims to improve patientsafety and clinical efficiency. However, complying with these standards remains a challenge in countries like Indonesia. Objective:To examine the relationship between workload and job motivation, as well as nurses' compliance with electronic documentation in a provincial teaching hospital. Material and methods:A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 90 inpatient nurses. Workload was measured using the NASA-TLX, motivation via Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and documentation compliance through a retrospective audit. Data was analyzed using chi-square tests and binary logistic regression (p < 0.05). Results: Most nurses experienced high workload levels. A significant association was found between workload and compliance (p = 0.001). Low motivation significantly increased the risk of non-compliance (OR = 0.040; 95% CI 0.008-0.207), identifying it as the determining factor for compliance. Conclusion:The adherence of nursing staff to electronic documentation depends more on the workload than on personal motivation. It is essential to improve workload management and adapt the design of the EMR to nursing workflows to enhance the quality of documentation

- PublicationOpen AccessEnfermería de Práctica Avanzada en México: Revisión de alcance y perspectiva para su implementación(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) Casales-Hernández, Maria Guadalupe; Gonzalez Garcia, Sergio Diego; Delgado Cruz, Jessica Pamela; Covarrubias López, Esmeralda Soledad; Ramírez Villegas, Raquel María; Hernández Zavala, Margarita; Sin departamento asociadoObjective: To analyze the scientific and normative evidence available on the conceptualization, domains, and competencies of Advanced Practice Nursing in the Mexican context. Materials and methods: A scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 statement as a guideline for reporting the search and selection process. The research question was structured using the SPIDER format. Studies published in Spanish and English between January 2015, and June 2025 were included from PubMed, SciELO, BVS, national normative sources, and Google Scholar. Study selection was conducted independently by the researchers, and discrepancies were resolved by consensus. Results: Forty-three studies were included, 67.4% conducted in Mexico. The conceptualization of APN was heterogeneous: 27.9% closely matched the International Council of Nurses (ICN) definition, 41.9% partially, and 30.2% recovered only fragmented elements. The most frequent domains were research, care management, interprofessional collaboration, and clinical quality/safety (>88%), while cultural competence and advocacy were rarely addressed (<30%). Only 44.2% of the documents included a master's degree as a requirement. PHC appeared only marginally as a central conceptual axis of APN. Conclusions:The conceptualization of APN in Mexico is diverse and fragmented. These findings enabled the proposal of a context-adapted definition as an academic contribution to strengthen the understanding of the role and provide evidence to guide its design, regulation, and implementation with an emphasis on Primary Health Care
- PublicationOpen AccessAvances y desafíos para las prácticas avanzadas de Enfermería en Brasil: una revisión del alcance(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) Pequeno, Maria Luísa Grangeiro; Freire, Wilma Tatiane Vasconcelos; Silveira, Maria Mariana Barros Melo da; Mangueira, Suzana de Oliveira; Barbosa, Keylla Talitha Fernandes; Cabral, João Victor Batista; Sin departamento asociadoObjective: To map the implementation gaps and recommendations for the development of policies and professional training for advanced practice nursing (APN) in Brazil. Materials and Methods: This was a scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with studies published up to February 2025 in the sources of information CINAHL, EMBASE, Lilacs, PubMed/Medline, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, Wiley, the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, and Google Scholar. Content description was performed via the PAGER method. Results: Twenty-eight studies were included, with 50.0% of the publications concentrated in primary health care and 82.1% published after 2020. The following patterns were identified: foundations for advanced practices; advances: discussions guided by the Pan American Health Organization, the Brazilian Nursing Association, and the Federal Nursing Council; gaps: absence of regulation, weaknesses in training, difficulty in understanding, and cultural barriers; evidence for practice: positive care and care management outcomes; and recommendations: need for specific regulation and training at the professional master's and doctoral levels. Conclusions: in its initial implementation phase in Brazil, APN faces significant challenges such as regulatory urgencies and a lack of specialized training. The main recommendations for policy development and professional training are based, firstly, on legal consolidation, as well as on the creation of stricto sensu postgraduate programs with a pedagogical structure geared towards developing competencies and skills compatible with advanced practices in various care settings
- PublicationOpen AccessGestión del cuidado en Chile: percepciones y significados desde una mirada gerencial(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) González Nahuelquin, Cibeles; Bettancourt - Ortega, Lorena; Arredondo - González, Emanuel; González - Chordá, Víctor; Sin departamento asociadoIntroduction: Nurses in managerial positions play a key role within hospitals. Objective: To explore the meanings that nurses in managerial roles attribute to the implications of care management within the Chilean hospital context. Material and method: Qualitative research with an interpretative approach, employing an embedded case study design. Participants were purposively selected with inclusion criteria being nurse deputy directors of care management with over one year of experience in the role. Content analysis as described by Bardin was conducted, focusing on units of meaning (text decomposition) followed by category development (classification). NVivo® V14 software was used to optimize analysis. The study was positively reviewed by the Deontological Committee (Reference: CD 392022) and the Scientific Ethical Committee of SSVSA (Memo 062019). Results: Three nurses were interviewed. One main category emerged: “Implications of the care management construct within the hospital structure,” which addressed the research purpose. From this, six subcategories surfaced, illustrating various ways care management is approached, the challenges faced, reflective processes, risks of “losing ground,” and how implementation can be measured through indicators and care standardization. Conclusions: Chilean regulation on care management has left a significant mark on the hospital structure; however, it remains a fluid construct requiring greater professional, social, and legal recognition.
- PublicationOpen AccessAnálisis de transferencia por los equipos de enfermería de pacientes complejos hospitalizados en Medicina Interna(Universidad de Murcia : servicio de publicaciones, 2026) Roldán-Valcárcel, María Dolores; Veiga Rodríguez, María; Ruiz Merino, Guadalupe; Sin departamento asociadoIntroduction: Currently, nursing teams lack standardised tools to ensure patient handovers during shift changeovers and to guarantee continuity of care, particularly for highly complex patients. This issue prompts reflection on shift changeovers with regard to patient safety. Objectives: To analyse the perceptions of nursing team professionals regarding the handover of complex chronic patients (PCC) hospitalised in internal medicine units in the Region of Murcia. Method: Multicentre, descriptive, observational, prospective and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. An adapted questionnaire was administered to nursing teams in internal medicine units across the Region of Murcia. Sociodemographic, work-related and perception variables were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics (p<0.05) with SPSS 23.0. Results: Of the 244 participants, 85% believed they performed patient handovers correctly; however, 84.83% felt that handovers could be improved for more complex patients. The majority of participants were women (88.11%), over 40 years of age (68.4%), and working 12-hour shifts (82.4%). Significant associations were found between years of experience and the appropriateness of the handover location; between being a nurse and forgetting information after a night shift; and between working 12-hour shifts or holding a supervisory position and the need to contact others due to missing information. Conclusions: The findings reveal a positive yet insufficient perception of the handover process. Standardisation of information transfer for complex patients, together with the establishment of multidisciplinary teams, is required to strengthen patient safety and ensure continuity of care
