Description
Abstract
The present paper pretends to analyse the patterns of intentional modification which may be suffered by phraseological units of biblical origin in the written Spanish. To achieve the established purpose in the theoretical part of the article some classifications of the creative manipulation patterns in the phraseology are exposed. In the practical part of the article the most representative examples drawn out mostly from the CREA are analysed according to the singled-out patterns. The analysis reveals that the units under consideration are actively involved in the structural-semantic modification which covers such patterns as addition, reduction, replacement, cleft, category transformation, extended metaphor, zeugma. As far as the semantic modification is concerned, there are cases of double actualization and literalization.
