Abstract
The main aim of this study is to quantify and analyse scientific production on music education in different databases (WoS, Scopus, Dimensions and Lens) between 2000 and 2022. The selected sample comprises 17,373 articles, 3,394 journals, 23,145 authors and 23,473 keywords. A descriptive and inferential analysis of scientific output and structural analyses was performed using bibliometric techniques such as citation, co-citation, co-occurrence and collaboration. Results reveal exponential growth of scientific production related to music education. The majority of authors (77.07%) have published only one article and very few cover most scientific production. Among journals which have published most articles the top positions correspond to the International Journal of Music Education and Music Education Research, and a scattering of the scientific bibliography is observed, showing that a very small group of journals concentrate most bibliography in a discipline. Finally, regarding article subjects, an increase is seen in educational-musical studies over those in the field of psychology.
