Description
Abstract
The main objective of this study was to identify factors associated with inti-mate partner violence among gay or bisexual men through an Exploratory Systematic Review based on the SPIDER criteria. To this end, four databases were reviewed, yield-ing 176 articles, of which 17 were ultimately selected. Most of these studies were cross-sectional in design, conducted in the United States between 2022 and 2023, with par-ticipants predominantly identifying as homosexual men. The IPV-GBM scale was the most frequently used instrument to assess experiences of intimate partner violence among men. Regarding the results, the main common factors identified in both victims and perpetrators were the presence of depressive symptoms, substance use and/or abuse, previous experiences of intimate partner violence, and stigma and social rejec-tion associated with homosexuality. Additionally, homophobic internalization and childhood sexual abuse experiences were identified as factors specifically associated with the role of victim.
