During the whole Eastern Question, Spain, whilst not participating, did show, however, a great deal of interest on the final fate of the Ottoman Empire, as we can see in the amount of texts printed about Istanbul. The ottoman capital, surrounded by sea is described, studied and analysed by soldiers, diplomats, travellers, journalists, politicians and tourists, their opinions lie somehow between the cronics and travellers’ literature. We must nor forget that at that time Russia was searching its way to the Mediterranean through the Ottoman empire.es
