Abstract
Durante el Alto Medievo, las imágenes adquirieron un papel protagonista dentro del
proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje, que la Iglesia del momento impulsó. Las artes plásticas se intrumentalizaron con una finalidad pedagógica, debían instruir en la fe y enseñar los modelos de conducta emanados de la Iglesia para el conjunto de la sociedad. Mediante las imágenes sacras, que el Occidente cristiano había sancionado como medios de aprendizaje para los indoctos, la Iglesia confeccionó un sistema de coordenadas que daban la pauta respecto del bien y del mal y que marcó las vidas de las gentes del Medievo en pro de someter a todos los grupos que formaban el orden social establecido bajo el dominio del más poderoso de los señores feudales, Dios, manipulando la figura, para que todos los hombres le rindiese pleitesía, bajo amenaza de condenación en los fuegos del Infierno.
During the High Medieval times, images got a main role within the teaching-lear ning process that church promoted. Plastic Arts became tools with a pedagogic goal. They had to instruct the faith and teach the models of behaviour that came from Chur ch itself for the whole society. Thought of means of learning for the unlearned by the Christian Western world, the Church elaborated a system of coordinates which tried to diferenciate good from evil. This was essential for Medieval people. All the gromps forming a social order, made up by the most powerful of the feudal lords, God, were submitted. All human beings had to pay tribute under the threat of be ing condemned to the fi re of Hell.
