Description
Abstract
This article presents the life and work of the great Palestinian poet Samih al-Qasim. Despite writing a large amount of publications, he still remains practically unknown among the European readers. He was born in 1939, he saw how the Zionist Jews occupied his territory and humiliated his people. He became part of the Arab minority living in the Occupied Territories. His own life and his country’s history motivated him to reclaim the freedom for Palestine through the word. As a poet and courageous, he gathers in his verses the spirit and history of his time, always engaged and transfering his reality to the world. The poetry of Samih al-Qasim has its origin in politics, every verse shows the reclaim and the struggle for a fair raison. He is aware of his role at the time he had to live, and he writes with lucidity, confidence, certainty and frankness standing up for the Palestinian cause without fear and until the last beat of his veins.
