Abstract
The original modern re-workings of the Metamorphoses by A. Camilleri in MaruzzaMusumeci,Il casellante and Il sonaglioare both admirable and interesting. This paper analyses the most striking feature in these works such as: the nature of the sirens, the encounter, and the subsequent strange marriage ceremony with the manwho was the protagonist in the first novel, the figure of Scylla, the myth of Apolloand Daphne, the question of bestiality. To explore these peculiarities the followingclues are offered: classical sources, iconography, relationship with the folklore, themes of survival, the possibility that Beba-Anita in the third novel is modelled onPanisca or the Pan-woman. the similarities, differences and links in the trilogyarealso dealt with, particularly, the expertise in the thorough command of the charactersand situations which offers a fresh presentation of the Metamorphoses, richly evocative for the reader acquainted with the Classics, firmly rooted in classical mythology but recreated afresh, with unexpected happy endings, authentic hymnsto innocence, power of improvement and marital love.
