Description
Abstract
Torquato Tasso es uno de los
poetas más recordados de la literatura
italiana y mundial. Su fama se debe a la
redacción del poema épico la Jerusalén
liberada, texto al que dedicó toda su
vida.
Torquato Tasso is one of the most important poets in Italian and world literature. His fame is due to the writing of the epic poem The Liberation of Jerusalem, a text to which he dedi‐ cated his entire life. However, in this work we want to give an account of one of the works that we can classify as minor: Il discorso della virtù femmiline e donnesca. Tasso has never been recognized as someone who has shown himself in favor of the cause of women, indeed, the opposite could be said, since he is considered one of the spokesmen for the ideals of a movement in conflict with the ones looking for female equality, as the Counter‐Reformation was. Having a reference to the feminine virtues in the title, the question to be discussed is whether the discourse can be included in the broader debate of the Querelle des femmes, what was his point of view and if it deserves the consideration of a philogynous treatise.
