dc.description.abstractEl presente estudio mide la sobrecarga experimentada por los principales cuidadores de enfermos de Alzheimer. La muestra está compuesta de 52 sujetos de ambos sexos, con las siguientes características: sujetos a partir de 20 años de edad y sin límite superior, cuidadores principales de ancianos con demencia tipo Alzheimer, que convivían bajo el mismo techo cuidador-enfermo, compartían las actividades de la vida cotidiana. Por último, los ancianos dementes no debían estar institucionalizados. Se controlaron las variables: edad, sexo, estado civil, nº de hijos, nivel de estudios, nivel económico, tipo de vínculo, tiempo de cuidado y el nivel de demencia (CAMDEX), así como las respuestas de los sujetos a un cuestionario sobre la Sobrecarga en Cuidadores de Ancianos con Demencia (SCAD). Los resultados de este estudio indican que experimentaron mayor sobrecarga los cuidadores que son mujeres, mayores de 56 años, casadas, con un hijo, con nivel de estudios bajo-medio, de bajo nivel económico, que cuidan al enfermo alrededor de 10-12 años y que cuidan a enfermos en 3ª fase.es
dc.description.abstractThis present study measures the burden experienced by the primary caregivers of Alzheimer patients. The sample is composed of 52 subjects of both sexes who had the following characteristics: they were 20 years old or older (there was no upper age limit), primary caregivers of elderly Alzheimer patients, the caregiver lived in the same household as the patient, the caregiver and the patient performed their daily rutine together. At last, the patients were not candidates for institutionalization. The variables that were controled were: age, sex, mari-tal status, number of children, level of education, relation to the patient, time dedicated to the patient ́s care, and the stage of development of the dementia (CAMDEX), as so-on as the subject ́s answers to a questionaire dealing with the burden experienced by de caregivers of elderly patients suffering from dementia (SCAD). The results of this study show that the caregivers who are women, 56 years old or older,married, with one child, with an average to low level of education, of low economic status, who have been caring for the patient for aproxi-mately 10-12 years and who care for patients who are in the third fase of de disease experience the most burden.
