Abstract
El sector del calzado experimentó un notable desarrollo a finales de la Edad Media. Los chapines estuvieron de moda en todos los países del Occidente cristiano. Eran una especie de chanclo provisto de una suela cuyo grosor llegó a ser considerable en los siglos XV y XVI. En este artículo se analizan las distintas fuentes conservadas para el estudio de su confección y consumo en Aragón durante el tránsito entre el Medievo y la Modernidad. La reglamentación, el aprendizaje y la práctica del oficio, la adquisición de materias primas, el comercio y la fiscalidad a la que estaban sujetos son algunos de los elementos examinados para comprender el uso y significación que tuvieron estos carismáticos zapatos.
Abstract: The footwear sector experienced a remarkable development at the end of the Middle Ages. Chopines were fashionable in all the countries of the Christian West. They were a kind of flip-flop with a sole whose thickness became considerable in the 15th and 16th centuries. This article analyzes the different sources preserved for the study of their manufacture and consumption in Aragon during the transition between the Middle Ages and Modernity. The regulation, learning and practice of the trade, the acquisition of raw materials, trade and the taxation to which they were subject are some of the elements examined to understand the use and significance that these charismatic shoes had.
Riassunto: Il settore calzaturiero conobbe un notevole sviluppo alla fine del Medioevo. I pianelle erano di moda in tutti i Paesi dell’Occidente cristiano. Si trattava di un tipo di infradito con una suola il cui spessore divenne considerevole nei secoli Quattro e Cinquecento. Questo articolo analizza le diverse fonti conservate per lo studio della loro fabbricazione e del loro consumo in Aragona durante la transizione tra Medioevo e Modernità. La regolamentazione, l’apprendistato e la pratica del mestiere, l’acquisizione delle materie prime, il commercio e la tassazione a cui erano soggette sono alcuni degli elementi esaminati per comprendere l’uso e il significato che queste scarpe carismatiche avevano.
