Abstract
Animals play a fundamental part in the argument of Iamblichus’ Babylonian Stories. The reason for that may be that animals reveal indirectly how gods intervene in order to protect the novel’s protagonists. The gods involved may be two oriental deities, Heavenly Aphrodite and Mithras, including Hecate, in accordance with the ‘Babylonian’ setting of the nove.
