Description
Abstract
This article focuses on the cartagenera or taranta-cartagenera, one of the basic styles of the of the cantes minero-levantinos (mining-levantine singings). Based on a recording made by the cantaor Antonio Piñana for Televisión Española, we have proposed to carry out an adaptation for string quintet. Previously, we talked about the origins of the cartagenera, its denominations and its characteristic features. After reflecting on how to bring flamenco to the pentagram, we present our transcription of the aforementioned cante, from which we will describe some of the most outstanding musical elements, as well as explaining certain decisions that, from a rhythmic and melodic point of view, we have had to adopt. This transcription has been the basis for our adaptation of the cartagenera for string quintet, in which we have tried to contribute our most creative side, without distorting, however, the original essence of the cante.
