Abstract
Partiendo de un reciente estudio sobre la aplicación de las nuevas tecnologías en las
universidades europeas, se analizan las implicaciones para las universidades virtuales en
relación con el proceso de Bolonia, prestando especial atención a los casos de Alemania y
Gran Bretaña. Se demostró que las regulaciones de calidad y la interpretación de los
estándares son diferentes. Se analizan algunas de las líneas de actuación de la Comisión
Europea para promocionar el e-learning y la movilidad virtual, señalando que los medios
financieros para apoyar es tos programas son bastante modestos.
A continuación se analiza el espectacular fracaso de la e-University británica, demostrando
que un desarrollo sostenible de e-learning es posible sólo si se realizan buenos planes de
negocio y si se tienen en cuenta criterios adicionales para un diseño de proyecto sostenible
Starting from a recent review on ICT applications at European Universities scope and implications of the Bologna process for virtual universities are discussed. Special reference is given to development in Germany and Britain. It showed up that quality regulations and interpretation of standards are differing. In what follows some action lines of the European Commission to promote e-learning and virtual mobility are mentioned however it is also pointed out that the financial means to support the programs are quite modest. Next the spectacular failure of the British e-University is discussed. It shows that sustainable development of e-learning is possible only if realistic business plans are set up and if some additional criteria for sustainable project design are taken into consideration
