Description
Abstract
The present work, framed in a professional line, consists of a proposal for a justified translation of the novel Autobiografia erotica di Aristide Gambìa (Einaudi, 2011) by Domenico Starnone, since the main objective that has driven our study is the realisation of a translation assignment of a literary work belonging to the erotic subgenre. We have decided to investigate this subject in further detail since the translation of erotic novels has been a subject that has been scarcely approached and studied throughout history and because this genre is of particular interest to us. At the same time, the two specific objectives that we have set are, on the one hand, to delve into existing studies, both in published works and on the Internet, in order to reach an approach to its definition, its characteristics and its translation problems; on the other hand, to confront these problems without being subject to self-censorship due to the social stigmas concerning this type of translation. The methodology followed to perform this work consists of documentation on the erotic subgenre and its translation, documentation on the work and its author, analysis of the work, its translation, and the justification of the proposed translation. Lastly, and with regard to the proposed translation and its problems, we have reached a number of conclusions: firstly, that the translator is faced with a text that poses a great challenge; secondly, that the translator is susceptible to self-censorship; thirdly, that we have experienced a deficiency in terms of the reference sources.
