The aim of this study is to know the evolution of the time marks recorded in the "100 m manikin tow with fins" event. In addition, it also aims to identify those factors that may have caused changes in the evolution of the marks obtained in this event. For this purpose, we have compiled the three best times in the absolute category (both male and female) achieved in 13 Lifesaving Spanish Winter Championships. Specifically, the time of period analyzed in this study is from 2008 to 2020. The results show that, throughout the period studied, the marks accredited in the "100 m manikin tow with fins" event have shown a positive evolution. The evolution has been more pronounced in the female category than in the male category. The average of the three best marks of the female category has improved 9,41 seconds (14.56%) while the men's category has improved 5,97 seconds (11.12%).  In addition, the elimination of the rule requiring the manikin's breathing airway to remain unobstructed during the event and the use of the latest generation of fins have probably influenced in the evolution of the marks obtained in this event.

Quality of life in older adults and sports practice motives
(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Cavas García, Francisco; Ibáñez Pérez, Ricardo José; Martínez Moreno, Alfonso; Cano Noguera, Francisco
Regular physical activity practice provides benefits and improves quality of life (QOL). The purpose of this study was to know the level of QOL of older adults who practice physical activity.  The study was quantitative, descriptive and cross-cutting with accidental sampling, with 554 participants of which 37.2% (n=206) are men and 62.8% (n=348) women, with an average age of around 65 years (M=64.9; DT=10.3). To know the QOL of the sample members, the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was used, 26 items and four dimensions, with five-option Likert scale responses (1-5). Regarding statistics, Cronbach alpha, Pearson linear correlation, t-Student, ANOVA, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Levene test were applied with SPSS 25.0 for Windows. Regarding the results, it should be noted that the environment dimension was the best valued followed closely by the psychological health dimension and the worst valued was social relationships. There were no significant differences in sex. In terms of age, when one gets older, psychological health and the environment decrease, while increasing social relationships. In conclusion, older adults with academic qualifications had better values in psychological health and in the environment.

Effects of an introductory swimming programme based on aquatic motor games on body and socio-affective self-esteem in 5-and 6-year-olds
    (2023) Simón-Piqueras, Juan Ángel; Zamorano-García, David; Gil-Madrona, Pedro Gil-Madrona; Cano Noguera, Francisco
This study sought to examine the success of the application of two introductory swimming programmes in enhancing the body and socio-affective self-esteem of 5 and 6 year olds, and to determine which of these programmes was more effective in this improvement. Both programmes were administered over three months and were designed under the stageapproach of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation. The first was implemented in the control group (31 girls and 27 boys), and the second in the experimental group (29 girls and 23 boys). The experimental group included the application of aquatic games designed to promote cooperative play and children’s knowledge of their own bodies. The results showed significant improvements in both types of self-esteem in the experimental group, while only body self-esteem improved in the control group. In the between-group comparison, the experimental group showed significantly more robust results in both types of self-esteem. No gender differences were found. We conclude that the use of motor games oriented towards collaborative games and knowledge of one's own body aremore effective in improving both types of self-esteem. Thus, their use is recommended in introductory swimming classes.
