    (2003-01-01) Bisquerra Alzina, Rafael
Emotional education is an educational innovation which has as an objective to answer to the social needs not attended into ordinary education. The foundations of emotional education can multiple intelligence theory, emotional intelligence, flow, progressive education movement, psychological education, health education, social skills, subjective well-being, etc. As an example of theory we present the reversal theory. The objective of emotiona education is the development of emotional competence: emotional conscience, emotional regulation, selfmanagement, interpersonal intelligence, life skills and subjective well-being. The practice of emotional education implies the design of programs based on a theory, with the training of the teachers who will implement them; we need curricular materials to support the teacher task; to evaluate the programs we need instruments and strategies, etc. This article is the result of the work of the GROP (Grupo de Recerca en Orientació Psicopedagògica) of the Department MIDE of the University of Barcelona.

Estrategias para mejorar la comprensión de textos comparativos
(2003-01-01) Montanero Fernández, Manuel; González Ponte, Lourdes
In this work, we have compared the efficiency of two educational intervention approaches concerning their capability to improve the comprehension and recall of comparative texts in History. The experiment included 62 subjects, from among 15 and 16 years old, belonging to two experimental groups and one control group of Secondary Education. The results showed the weakness of the instruction of study techniques designed toward the extraction of main ideas from the text. On the contrary, the alternative intervention, focused on structural strategies, produced clear improvements in comprehension, reasoning and verbal expression capacities of the subjects.

La formación del profesorado a través de los sistemas educativos a distancia. Evaluación del programa de la UNED
(2003-01-01) García Llamas, José Luís; Ballesteros Velázquez, Belén
In this article we present the problem referred to the teacher training in the distance educational system., we are specially interested in the analysis of the University students’ answers to open questions and the discussion groups. For this objective we are using the SPAD-T software programme in three phases: Analysis of repeated segments, characteristic segments and analysis of correspondences. The conclusions of this study show some possible improvements of the distance training courses, in relation to the organisational, administrative and academic aspects. In this sense, we need to improve the didactic materials, promote the constitution of work groups, more connection with the real practice and offer others courses about the new fields of the personal and professional professors’ tasks.

El uso de las Técnicas de Segmentación en la evaluación del rendimiento en lenguas. Un estudio en la comunidad autónoma vasca
    (2003-01-01) Lizasoain, L.; Joarasti, L.; Santiago, C.; Lukas, J. F.; Moyano, N.; Sedano, M.; Munárriz, B.
This paper is an illustration of the use of segmentation statistical techniques in the data analysis of an evaluative research. The CART method has been applied to a set of data on academic achievement in Basque and Spanish language. The data set was obtained from a sample of Secondary Education students in the Basque Autonomous Community. The aims were to devise and purge a predictive model of the achievement in these areas, and to assess the possibilities that the use of this kind of technique offers both in the data analysis phase of evaluative research and in that of dissemination of results. The results obtained through segmentation have been triangulated by means of multiple regression, factor analysis and multiple correspondence analysis. The results basically agree, but segmentation has the advantage that one can operate simultaneously with both quantitative and qualitative variables. Furthermore, the graphical results offered (decision trees) are very easy to interpret.

In this paper a procedure, based on Item Response Theory (IRT), to display achievement outcomes from international and national educational assessments is presented. This procedure, which combines normative and criterial evaluation, is compared with the classical approach which uses direct scores or the percentages of correct responses. As an example, the procedure is applied to the secondary level student’s outcomes from the International Study in Teaching and Learning of English Language. The obtained results and the advantages and limitations of classical and IRT procedures are described and discussed.
