- PublicationOpen AccessLa política de Lipsio y las empresas políticas de saavedra Fajardo(2015-09-23) López Poza, SagrarioThis article examines the influence of Belgian erudite Justus Lipsius on Saavedra Fajardo's Empresas políticas. The influence is mostly noticeable in the laconic style, in Tacitus' quotes, in the neo-stoic ideas and in Saavedra's transformation of some of Lipsius metaphors into images of his Maxims. Lipsius' name is nonetheless mentioned only once, due to the fact that he was an «unauthorized» author.

Saavedra Fajardo doesn't go far from scholastic morals when he tolerates concealment and rejects deceit. Concealment appears linked to the Prince's operative care and to a humble or limited power. Hence fore, concealment can be finally defined as a humble or careful deceit.

Then he examines the question of the secret as it appears in Saavedra's work. He remarks the importance of the connection of secret with concealment and the role these concepts play on positions such as Secretary, Diplomat and Prince.
