Preocupações lexicais nas obras de ficção de José Saramago.
(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2024) Barbosa Machado, José
One of the major concerns for writers is the choice of the most appropriate vocabulary to convey their intentions. José Saramago (1922-2010), the Portuguese Nobel laureate in Literature, shared these concerns but with the distinction of expressing them within the text itself. The aim of this study is to identify passages in his fictional works where metalinguistic comments arise regarding the lexical choices he made and the use of certain words in the Portuguese language. These comments manifest themselves in the form of minor hesitations, reflections by the narrator on their own, or between characters in dialogue, and unlike other writers, they are embedded within the text.
