Effect of high-tone external muscle stimulation on fatigue and functional outcomes in multiple sclerosis: A randomized controlled trial
(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025) Turky, Khalid Taha Yassin; Shalaby, Nevin M; Abdelmonem, Asmaa Foad; Abdeldayem, Tayseer Saber; Sarhan, Mohammed Ali Mohammed; Omar, Ghada S M; Mahmoud, Lama Saad El-Din
A major symptom experienced by subjects with multiple sclerosis is fatigue, which induces a decline in physical, cognitive, and functional capacity. Exercise and electrotherapy are cornerstones of rehabilitation that elicit acceptable effects on feelings of fatigue and on performing activities of daily living. A randomized controlled trial was conducted to investigate the effects of high-tone external muscle stimulation on fatigue and functional outcomes in multiple sclerosis patients. A total of 40 multiple sclerosis patients were allocated randomly to either: the study or control groups. The study group received high-tone external muscle stimulation, while the control group received a conventional selected exercise training program. Both groups received 3 sessions per week for one month. Both groups showed a significant improvement post-study compared with pre-study. There was a significant reduction in Disability Status Scale (p=0.002), Fatigue Severity Scale scores (p=0.004), and total scores of Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (p=0.001) of the study group compared with that of the control group. High-tone external muscle stimulation showed an important improvement effect for both fatigue and functional outcomes in multiple sclerosis patients, being more effective than the conventional exercise training program; therefore, it should be considered a beneficial treatment method for patients with multiple sclerosis.

Efficacy of high-power laser therapy combined with exercise on wrist pain, function and joint position sense in female gymnasts with non-specific chronic wrist pain
(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2022) Morsi Galal, Dina Othman Shokri; Abd-Elfattah, Hanaa Mohsen; Sakr, Hend Reda; Elserty, Noha; Elias, Mina Atef Georgui
Background: Wrist pain is common and debilitating among gymnasts, presenting a tricky diagnostic and therapeutic challenge resulting in falling down in training sessions and during performance. Objective: To find out the effect of high-power laser treatment, either alone or in combination with exercise, on wrist pain, function and joint position sense in female gymnasts with non-specific chronic wrist pain. Methods: Thirty-six female gymnasts (aged 10 to 16 years) who were diagnosed with non-specific wrist pain were recruited as the participants for the study, and were randomly allocated into three groups. The participants of the laser therapy group received only high power laser therapy, the exercise program group participants received exercises only, and the participants of the combined therapy group received both laser and exercises. Pain, function, and joint position sense were the outcomes measures in the study. Results: In all treatment groups, all measured results improved after therapy. The laser therapy group had the least significant impact, whereas the combined therapy group had the most significant impact. Conclusion: It might be early to say whether solely high-power laser therapy is an effective non-invasive modality for treating female gymnasts with non-specific chronic wrist pain. The addition of associated co-interventions to high power laser treatment can improve the beneficial effects of laser therapy.
