- PublicationOpen AccessJódar (Jaén) en el siglo XIII : ¿villa señorial o villa de realengo?(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Cucart Espina, PabloEl siguiente trabajo se corresponde con una de las principales conclusiones de la Tesis Doctoral que estoy finalizando en la Universidad de Granada en estos momentos. Frente a la historiografía y obras genealógicas que han tratado a la villa de Jódar como villa señorial a lo largo del siglo XIII. Estas obras indicaron que la villa de Jódar fue cedida como posesión al primer señor laico de la frontera, Sancho Martínez de Jódar. Pero ¿fue realmente la villa de Jódar cedida en propiedad a Sancho Martínez de Jódar o fue cedida como tenencia a Sancho Martínez de Jódar? Aunque parece una pregunta simple de contestar, deberemos de revisar, de nuevo, tanto las crónicas castellanas, obras genealógicas y los documentos que tenemos hoy en día en nuestras manos para afirmar si Jódar fue una villa señorial o, por el contrario, una villa de realengo.
- PublicationOpen AccessLos batanes de Aragón (siglos XII-XVI).(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Navarro Espinach, GermánThe industrial facilities in the Middle Ages had among their main protagonists the fulling mills within the fundamental sector of textile manufacturing. In the kingdom of Aragon there was still no specific study on this type of mills since they began to spread in Europe from the 13th century until reaching the Modern Age. This article covers this gap with new documentation that extends to more than sixty the number of draper mills located in thirty Aragonese municipalities. Some unpublished inventories allow us to know what was inside these buildings. The comparison with the 125 fulling mills that have also been identified in Aragon in the mid-19th century highlights the strength that rural industry had in medieval times far from urban centers.

- PublicationOpen AccessLas alquerías de la antigua Axarquía de Málaga : asentamiento y características.(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Ortega López, DavidThis research work deals with the rural settlements of Andalusia located to the east of the land of Malaga, specifically the axarchic farmhouses. Making use of both archaeology and written documentation we have collected twenty-seven farmhouses where we set ourselves the objective of knowing the settlement patterns, as well as their characteristics and urban composition in order to discover where and how they adapted and were arranged in a mostly mountainous physical environment and what differences and similarities existed between them depending on their buildings. The results will allow us to know a large number of unequal settlements in demography and extension which were developed according to the exploitation of rainfed agriculture of the Montes de Málaga.
- PublicationOpen AccessLa época prenotarial en el Alto Aragón.(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Nasarre Rodríguez, ÁngelThis article aims to be a contribution to the heuristics on the origins of the notarial institution in the kingdom of Aragon, temporarily locating the study in the period prior to the Foral Compilation of 1247; first Aragonese legal document in which ad hoc clauses related to this were specified. The objective of this contribution is to offer a new perspective on the prenotarial period in Alto Aragón through the analysis of a series of essential concepts on which, later, the normative bases of the notarial institution in the ancient kingdom of Aragón will be based.
- PublicationOpen AccessLos exvotos en textos hispánicos de los siglos XIII al XVI : piedras y minerales como objetos de un sensorium devocional.(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Rodríguez, Gerardo Fabián; Miranda, Lidia RaquelThe paper analyses the role that mineral objects and stones, described in medieval sources as votive offerings, play in the construction of a significant world. To do this, it evaluates the relationship that they establish, in the miraculous context, with the devotees, which configures them in a rank of entity equivalent or superior to that of the properly human due to the purpose and the way in which each actant uses them, and especially by the sensory aspect that defines such contacts allowing us to recognize specific characteristics of a sensorium that we qualify as devotional.
- PublicationOpen AccessLa institución notarial en Medina Sidonia (siglos XIII-XV).(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Jiménez López de Eguileta, Javier E.El estudio de la institución notarial en Medina Sidonia desde su incorporación a la Corona de Castilla en el siglo XIII hasta la conclusión del siglo XV es el objeto del presente trabajo. Se atiende especialmente al oficio de la escribanía pública de la ciudad, pero no queda desatendida la actuación de notarios en otros ámbitos de escrituración, como la escribanía del concejo. Asimismo, se ofrecen algunos datos sobre los escribanos del rey y los notarios apostólicos actuantes en Medina. La investigación ha permitido descubrir no solo la trayectoria profesional completa de un considerable número de miembros del oficio escribanil, sino también aspectos de especial interés para el conocimiento de la institución, como, entre otros, la nominación, título, número o funciones de los escribanos públicos y sus subalternos.

La monarquía medieval en cinco cuentos portugueses.(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Gonçalves Soares, Ana RitaLos cuentos que Agustina Bessa-Luís y Mário Cláudio dedican a una serie de personajes especialmente carismáticos de la monarquía portuguesa medieval plantean una reescritura abiertamente subjetiva de sus biografías. En este artículo, se analizan cinco cuentos –“Afonso Henriques e D. Teresa”, “Dom Pedro I e Inês de Castro”, “Leonor Teles e João Fernandes Andeiro”, “Leonor Telles” y “D. João e a família inglesa”– que permiten indagar sobre la representación de la Edad Media y sobre las estrategias narrativas que contribuyen a conformarla en la ficción contemporánea.

Los especialistas del drenaje agrícola medieval en humedales mediterráneos ibéricos.(Sociedad Española de Estudios Medievales., 2023) Torró, JosepThe palafanguers had the responsibility of establishing and maintaining agricultural drainage networks in Valencia and other Iberian Mediterranean areas since the 13th century. Most of them came from the kingdom of France and other regions where the spade was the agricultural tool par excellence, and where the transformation of wetlands was of greater magnitude and complexity than in the Mediterranean environment. The development of qualifications among these professionals, from the 15th century onwards, generated an internal differentiation from which emerged those who were recognised as masters. The migratory dynamic, favoured by the discontinuity of local demand, seems to have played an important role in this process.
