dc.description.abstractThis study proposes a chronological journey through the final months of Don Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo’s life within the framework of his social and intellectual life in Salamanca during the outbreak and consolidation of the Spanish Civil War. This exhibition explores Unamuno’s progressive isolation month by month: from his initial doubts and contradictions regarding the political climate, through his ambiguous and approving stance regarding the July Coup, to the famous October 12th speech in the auditorium and his subsequent social rejection and forced seclusion. Through this reading, we will analyze how the war reconfigured the urban, intellectual, and emotional space of Salamanca, as well as the way Unamuno embodies the struggle between commitment and despair, between words and silence. Thus, this work engages with narrative, epistolary, and testimonial sources to weave together a figure who is dying not only as an individual, but as the collective conscience of a broken nation.
dc.description.abstractEste estudio propone un recorrido cronológico por los últimos meses de la vida de don Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo dentro del marco de su vida social e intelectual en Salamanca durante el estallido y consolidación de la Guerra Civil Española. Esta exposición explora mes a mes el progresivo aislamiento de Unamuno: desde sus dudas y contradicciones iniciales ante el clima político, pasando por su ambigua y beneplácita postura frente al Golpe de Julio, hasta llegar al famoso discurso del 12 de octubre en el paraninfo y su posterior rechazo social y reclusión forzada. A través de esta lectura, se analizará cómo el conflicto bélico reconfigura el espacio urbano, intelectual y emocional de Salamanca, así como el modo en que Unamuno encarna la lucha entre el compromiso y la desesperanza, entre la palabra y el silencio. Así, este trabajo dialoga con fuentes narrativas, epistolares y testimoniales para entretejer una figura que agoniza no solo como individuo, sino como conciencia colectiva de una nación rota.
