Abstract
The academies of the Neapolitan nativity scene, preserved in the Salzillo Museum in Murcia, are figures of beggars that were part of the collection of the García de Castro brothers (Emilio and Carmelo), who showed interest in the faithful reconstruction of the eighteenth-century presepes of Naples at that time. These pieces represent naked or semi-naked characters in order to capture carnality and anatomy through the molding of clay; in the case of adult men or even infants. In the case of two of those preserved in Murcia, they were made by renowned Neapolitan artists such as Giuseppe Sanmartino or Salvatore di Franco. However, there is another group made up of three academies (a man and two boys) whose author is unknown.
