Description
Abstract
This article offers a critical analysis of Michel Henry’s reading of the Kierkegaardian concept of anxiety. First, it explains why Henry holds that anxiety before possibility as possibility and anxiety pertaining to sexuality make up the «paroxysmal expression» of the essence of life. Second, the article shows why, for Kierkegaard, anxiety is not only an experience of life as a possibility of power, but also the experience of the possibility of nothingness. Finally, it is shown how the dialectic tension between both modesof anxiety leads to faith and determines a non-confessional notion of the phenomenon.
