Description
Abstract
movimientos sociales.
The Zapatismo is one of the most notable socio-political phenomena among recent social movements, because it started from a very local presence and it has achieved a very important global influence. This influence on Mexican, Latin American and worldwide politics is explained due to a new discourse and practices which achieve an unexpected media impact and a novel and decisive presence in the social networks. The conflict of Chiapas is not waged on armed terms but as a discursive multi-stage and multi-channel struggle, from the antagonistic political discourse to multiform street action, through the networks and media, polymorphous artistic action, advertising, literature, music or movies. We are speaking of the history of a communication success in which it is possible to distinguish three stages that are subjected to analysis in this article, from its original and surprising success in the conventional mass media to its current attempt at building autonomous and free media, linked to the practice and needs of social movements.
