Abstract
transgênicos no país.
Brazil has played an essential role in the strategy of transnational corporations which develop GMO technologies, due to the fact that it is, besides USA and Argentina, one of the major world producers and exporters of soy and corn. Several legislations have been introduced an early stage with the objective to establish a legal framework capable of providing juridical security for com- panies in the chemical branch regarding their seeds and other technologies. Although political opponents, both the governments of PSDB and those of PT have positioned themselves in the same way, favorable to commercial liberation of GMO planting and consumption. A group of organizations, activists and scientists, however, have been facing this policy for more than twenty years, assuming the task of alerting the country against the risks that GMO crops can bring to the country’s environmental and public health.
