Abstract
Hoy día el turista es más exigente en cuanto a la importancia que le da al clima al
momento de escoger el lugar para vacacionar. Los países fríos explotan sus características
climáticas explotando los deportes invernales para los de las zonas cálidas mientras que los
de las cálidas lo hacen para los de los lugares templados. Este trabajo trata sobre el tema del
clima en una isla-municipio tropical que a escasamente 20 kilómetros al este de la isla principal
de Puerto Rico cuenta con un clima que favorece mucho un desarrollo turístico mayor
que el alcanzado hasta el momento. En resumen, Vieques es una isla con un gran potencial
turístico producto de sus características climáticas pero el cual se aprovecha muy poco.
ABSTRACT Present day tourists are more demanding with respect to the climate of their vacation destination. The countries with colder climates take advantage of their climate by developing winter sports for their tourists from warmer areas while the ones with warmer ones exploit theirs for those from the colder countries. This work is about the climate of a small tropical island-municipio just 20 kilómeters east of the main island of Puerto Rico with a climate that favors a more developed tourist industry that it currently has. In summary, Vieques is an island with great potential for developing a tourist industry based on the characteristics of its climate but which has not taken advantage of it.
