Abstract
A partir del estado actual de la historiografía, el artículo presenta las fuentes y observables para el estudio del comercio y los comerciantes del Río de la Plata, desde la creación del Virreinato rioplatense hasta la conformación de las Provincias Unidas, es decir, entre la crisis del Imperio español en América del Sur y la creación de Estados independientes en la región. A través de una descripción de las fuentes disponibles y sus características, presenta los fundamentos metodológicos para la construcción de una mirada superadora a la que actualmente tenemos de la cuestión.
From the current state of historiography, the article presents the sources and observables for the study of the commerce and merchants of the Río de la Plata, from the creation of the Viceroyalty of the River Plate to the formation of the United Provinces, that is, between the crisis of the Spanish Empire in South America and the creation of independent States in the region. Through a description of the available sources and their characteristics, he presents the methodological foundations for the construction of an outlook that we currently have of the issue.
