Abstract
La integración universitaria ha sido un objetivo anhelado por
la comunidad académica latinoamericana. Sin embargo, la
significación y alcance del término no son claros. A comienzos
del siglo XX se buscaba una integración para aglutinar a la
comunidad académica bajo las consignas de autonomía,
democratización, modernización de las universidades. Esta
integración no se plasmó. Actualmente se sigue utilizando
el término pero su significación y alcances van encaminados
a fortalecer el modelo económico, por lo cual sería más
preciso emplear el término de transnacionalización de la
educación superior.
University integration has been a goal desired by the Latin American academic community. However, the meaning and scope of the term are unclear. In the early twentieth century an integration was sought which brought together the academic community under the slogans of university modernization, independence and democratization. This integration was not reached. Today the term is still used but its meaning and scope are intended to strengthen the economic mode; therefore, it would be more accurate to use the term higher education transnationalization.
