Description
Abstract
Abstract: This article studies descriptively the tendencies of bibliometric behavior in the information contained in Wikipedia, especially those documents in the category of Featured Articles in Spanish and aims to demonstrate the sufficiency in scientific validity of a virtual encyclopedia, as well as, the levels of obsolescence in the various archives, titles and contents that integrate its platform. Through the investigation, a total of 30,524 documents were identified in 21 general themes, of which 28,187 (92.34%) were last modified in 2013 and a further 2,337 (7.66%) that had changes during 2012. For their analysis, the growth and aging model of the literature on science and technology (aging index, half-life and relation of operational and archive references) was applied. Among the results of research can be observed the strength of Wikipedia as a tool for access to knowledge for academic purposes through scientific sufficiency. In the same analysis dynamics alternatives are reviewed to improve aging rates in the face of the inexorable increase in content, the use of updated references and the inclusion of a greater number of topics in all scientific disciplines.
