Description
Abstract
ABSTRACT: Recently, the inland tourism in Spain has helped to mitigate the problems of rural areas. Key factors have been setting up of a range of actions linked to productive diversification processes and the emergence of a modest segment, but definitely on the rise, related to travelers who choose less crowded tourist destinations. This is the case of spa tourism, which after facing a long period of decay, in the late eighties has experienced a revival, becoming a real alternative to revitalize rural areas with limited development opportunities. In this contribution we describe some aspects of this experience and analyze some of its implications for the rural areas.
