dc.description.abstractThe Seleucis was the richest and most dynamic region of northern Syria under the Seleucid Kingdom. The founder of the dynasty, Seleucus I Nicator, promoted an ambitious urban planning policy that completely revolutionized the region, turning it into one of the most dynamic in the Mediterranean. However, this policy was not exclusive to northern Syria, but was an element through which the first Seleucids tried to structure their large kingdom. It was during the reign of Antiochus I Soter (280-261 BC) that the Seleucid became the hard core of the Seleucid Kingdom thanks to its optimal conditions, its strategic position, and its natural defences in a context of great military and political challenges in eastern Mediterranean.
dc.description.abstractLa Seléucide fue la región más rica y dinámica del norte de Siria bajo el Reino Seléucida. El fundador de la dinastía, Seleuco I Nicator, impulsó una ambiciosa política urbanística que revolucionó por completo la región convirtiéndola en una de las más dinámicas del Mediterráneo. No obstante, esta política no fue exclusiva del norte de Siria, sino que fue un elemento mediante el cual los primeros Seléucidas intentaron vertebrar su extenso reino. Fue durante el reinado de Antíoco I Sóter (280-261 a. C.) que la Seléucide se convirtió en el núcleo duro del Reino Seléucida gracias a sus condiciones óptimas, su posición estratégica y sus defensas naturales en un contexto de grandes desafíos militares y políticos en el Mediterráneo oriental.
