Publication: Percepciones y actitudes de los aprendices de E/LE hacia la competencia intercultural en el Caribe anglófono: una propuesta didáctica para su desarrollo

Abstract
Si bien es cierto que se han llevado a cabo numerosos
proyectos interculturales a nivel internacional en las últimas
décadas, son escasos los estudios que muestren cómo se
a
borda la competencia comunicativa intercultural en los centros
de educación superior en el Caribe anglófono. Por medio de
este artículo pretendemos
indagar en las
opiniones e
impresiones
de
los estudiantes matriculados en español como
lengua extranjera en
la Universidad de las Indias Occidentales.
Este
centro se compone de varios campus ubicad
os en,
Trinidad y Tobago, Antigua y Barbuda, Barbados y Jamaica y
su
participación en el estudio nos ha permitido extraer
conclusiones relevantes en cuanto al modo en
que
los alumnos
perciben y conciben la competencia comunicativa intercultural
en este contexto.
Tras el análisis cuantitativo y cualitativo de 75
cuestionarios
anónimos
averiguamos que los estudiantes del curso de
español SPAN 1001 de nivel intermedio y subsiguientes,
demandaban un mayor énfasis en el aprendizaje intercultural
de saberes y comportamientos socioculturales. Para dar
respuesta a esta demanda
implementamos
dos instrumentos
que se insertan dentro de una propuesta didáctica de mejora, y
que cont
ribuy
en
precisamente
a aumentar el nivel de esta
competencia por medio de las dos modalidades de cultura
(mayúscula y minúscula)
y una distribución equitativa de las
culturas meta y origen.
Although many intercultural projects have been carried out over the past decades, there are just a few focusing on how universities approach this competence in the Anglophone Caribbean. Thus, we aim at offering a general view on the opinions and impressions of those students taking Spanish as a foreign language at the University of the West Indies. This university consists of several campuses locate d in Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica and their participation in this study has provided with relevant conclusions regarding the way students perceive and conceive the intercultural communicative competence. A fter a qualitati ve and quantitative analysis of 75 anonymous questionnaires, we found out that students taking the course of SPAN 1001 of intermediate level together with higher levels , demand a greater emphasis on the intercultural learning of sociocultural facts and beh aviours. In order to meet this demand, we implemented two instruments inside a didactic proposal that might help to enhance the level of this competence by focusing on the two modalities of culture (highbrow and lowbrow culture s ) as well as an equal distri bution of the source and target cultures.
