Description
Abstract
After a professional career of 30 years, the first women have managed to ac-cess the most responsible positions in the Spanish armed forces. This fact has promoted the debate about the existence of a possible “glass ceiling” that is beginning to being broken. However, this debate is offered, almost entirely, by the written media, and not by the academic institutions. The article addresses the state of the art regarding the existence of a glass ceiling in the Spanish Armed Forces and studies all the factors that must be taken into account for the objective approach to this phenomenon and the cal-culation of the glass ceiling index from a scientific view, also taking into account the specific factors of the military institution: the structure of its corps and ranks and the regulations on access and promotion.
