Description
Abstract
People with Dementia of Alzheimer’s Type (DAT) suffer a communicative deficit that has been little studied from an interactional perspective. These speakers’ linguistic abilities have usually been analyzed regardless the communicative restrictions imposed by the interlocutor. In this paper we study nineconversations with a demented person from the analysis of the types of questions and answers for each participant. Results show that person with DTA’s percentage of inappropriate answers increases as dementia progresses and that it is bigger after an open-ended question than after a yes-no question.
