Description
Abstract
The term muzarab has been often used in the historical terminology about the spanish early Middle Age after the studies of Eloy Diaz-Jiménez y Molleda, Francisco Javier Simonet and above all after the historical and archaeological researchs of Manuel Gómez Moreno; they understood the Architetur in the Kingdom of León as effect of the christian Reconquest and immigration of people who left Al-Andalus because of religious persecution. Works of José Camón Aznar and Isidro Bango Torviso questioned the use of such terminology. Nevertheless their analysis remained insufficient. It is my view that one should speak about “fusion architecture” instead of “muzarabic architecture”. Churches were not orientalized by north christians or muzarabs, but by muslim workers or (arabized) christian artists or even by muladi who had returned to the christian faith.
