Description
Abstract
The admiration for Menéndez Pelayo by the catholic and conservative sectors of the Murcian society was highlighted with his visit to Murcia in April 1898. The elite of the Murcian society, his close friend Enrique Fuster, Count of Roche, kept correspondence with him. However, this general admiration culminated in the tribute which the Catholic Workers’ Circle (Círculo Católico de Obreros) gave him in Murcia on the 2nd June 1912, immediately after the death of Menéndez Pelayo, which took place in Santander on the 19th May. A brief treatise with the poems and speeches read in that tribute has been preserved.
