mismo, sino que en ella encontramos elementos ornamentales, con un evidente valor estético
y artístico, obviados hasta el momento
Th e article notes the coexistence of art and science in Spanish nautical cartography of the 18th century, dedicating our research to the study of aesthetic of one of the main works of the national cartographic production, Vicente To fi ño de San Miguel’s Atlas Marino de España . Th e detailed study of each letter, view or port plane belonging to Atlas , allows us to extract not only its geographical, territorial and scienti fi c information, in it we fi nd ornamental elements, with a clear artistic and aesthetic value, overlooked so far
