Description
Abstract
This article examines in depth the hexameter of Dionysius Periegetes, paying particular attention to the place that this one occupies in the evolutionary process of the Greek hexameter. To that end, the data present in Dionysius are analyzed and tabulated, and then are compared with other authors, mainly Homer (Iliad and Odyssey), the Homeric Hymns, Hesiod, Aratus, Apollonius of Rhodes, Callimachus, Nicander and Nonnus. In this first part we have analyzed the number of schemata, the head schemes (the most used schemes), the schemes’ concentration, the spondees sequences, and the p ercentages of spondees and dactyls per meter, as well as their total numbers.
