Description
Abstract
ABSTRACT: the suitability of the new degrees in Information and Documentation Science to the labor market demands is investigated, focusing on a specific profile in these studies, i.e. the training of catalogers. First we analyze the job in that area according to the following variables: qualifications, experience, general knowledge, language, place of location and type of employment. Secondly, the competences for both the formal and content cataloging are redefined, and finally, we offer the results of a cross-checking between the competences set and the work requirements specified. While it is true that the results show a clear correspondence between the offers made and the competences set, we must not forget that, since the latter set out the objectives of the subjects, these must be adapted to the new demands required by the market.
