Abstract
El interés por la situación sanitaria de la población que se manifiesta en algunos miembros de la clase médica a lo largo del siglo XIX originará que, en su segunda mitad, la higiene se consolide como disciplina, con importantes repercusiones en el ámbito social. Para que esto fuera posible era imprescindible la colaboración de los distintos miembros de la sociedad, lo que hacía necesaria la popularización entre ellos de diversas indicaciones y pautas de conducta. Paralelo al desarrollo del higienismo discurrió el de la lexicografía médica de divulgación que cuajó en una serie de diccionarios, más o menos enciclopédicos, y de recetarios o prontuarios terapéuticos. Por su función parecen óptimos para registrar la impronta del higienismo. Efectivamente, en nuestro trabajo hemos tratado de rastrear las huellas desiguales que fue dejando en ellos el florecimiento de éste, constatando la importancia que tuvo la higiene privada en todo el período, sólo compartida por la pública en las últimas décadas de la centuria.
The interest for the sanitary situation in the population shown in some of the medica! members through the 19th century, will imply, in the second half that the hygiene is consolidated as a discipline, with important effects on the social environment. The agreement of the different members of the society was necessary for this to be possible, and for that, it was also necessary the popularization among them of different indications and behaviours. At the same time as the development of higienism, the medical lexicography ocurred and that brought out series of medica! dictionaries for people. Due to this function, it seems ideal to register the importance of higienism. Actually, in this work, we have tried to track the different steps that were left on them the flowering of higienism, noting the importance that Personal Hygiene had in all that period, only shared with the Public Health in the last decades of the Century.
