Abstract
Resumen: A pesar de lo que comunmente se cree con respecto a la obra dramática de Gide, el escritor sí amaba el teatro y también se preocupaba por la
forma y por las restricciones impuestas por la representación. Gide escribió sus obras dramáticas con el fin de que fueran representadas. Sin embargo, a pesar del intenso deseo de Gide de llevar a escena sus obras dramáticas, no obtuvo los resultados esperados; las representaciones fueron un fracaso tanto de público como de crítica. Esta circunstancia lo marcó profundamente y condicionó definitivamente la idea que se forjó del teatro y de la representación teatral. A lo largo de este artículo trataremos de averiguar en qué consistían sus convicciones y exigencias estéticas con respecto al teatro y el modo en que estas se plasman en su primera obra; Saül. También tendremos ocasión de comprobar, que la obra vuelve a explorar la ética del individualismo, y verifica los peligros que conlleva la absoluta disposición de uno mismo.
Abstract: Despite what is commonly believed about the play of Gide, the writer did love the theater and also worried about the form and the restrictions imposed by the representation. Gide wrote his plays in order to be represented. However, despite Gide´s intense desire to stage his plays, he did not get the expected results; the performances were a failure both public and critics. This fact marked him deeply and conditioned definitely the idea that forged the theater and the theatrical. Throughout this article we will try to figure out what were his convictions and aesthetic requirements regarding the theater and how these are reflected in his early work, Saül. We will also have the opportunity to see that the work gets to explore the ethics of individualism, and verifies the dangers oneself absolute availability.
